Our Board of Trustees provides the overarching governance of the Charity and support TALK Surrey's work and ambition.
At TALK our team of enthusiastic and dedicated volunteers is crucial. They make our groups happen and our success as a charity depends on them. Their work is essential in providing a highly valued service to people withaphasia and their families.
We currently have over 70 volunteers, most of whom work in our groups, providing one-to-one support for stroke members in the weekly activities designed to aid communication and interaction. Some volunteers also visit individuals in their homes.
They are trained by speech and language therapy experts - but are not themselves speech and language therapists. The training helps them gain the knowledge and skills necessary to assist and support people withaphasia.
Great patience and empathy are required, plus a good sense of humour! But the rewards are enormous: helping recoverers socialise, integrate and communicate.
Some will become Group Leaders at one of the 5 centres we use currently, and some will present the activities for the week, which can range from craft to music, quizzes to games. Others can help in the background with fundraising.
All our volunteers are committed to delivering a highly valued service to people withaphasia in Surrey. If you would like to join our team of volunteers in this valuable work, please seeBecome a Volunteer.
