Guildford Group Leader Role

Overview

We are currently looking for a Volunteer Group Leader for our Guildford afternoon group, on Tuesday afternoons, term time only. You will be responsible for the running of this group, will be the main point of contact and deal with incoming and outgoing emails. You will also be working closely with our stroke members and other volunteers, ensuring that the sessions run smoothly.

Responsibilities & Requirements

Admin / Emails
Liaise with the Operations Manager and Groups Coordinator regarding the group
Attendance and absence
Setting up equipment
Assigning a volunteer to a stroke member at the start of each session
Attending group leader meetings (3 or 4 per year)
Attend termly planning meetings
Help organise events such as group outings, end of term fetes, Christmas lunch etc.
Introductions at the group
Guest meet and greet
Leading a session

Support/ Training

You will be supported by the other volunteers with most of the above requirements, but you will be the main point of contact and be responsible for the overall running of the group. You will receive ongoing support by the Operations Manager, the Groups Coordinator and Trustees.

Training is also provided, led by professional speech and language therapists.

Group Volunteers

Aim of our groups:

To help our members rebuild confidence, self-esteem, familiarise them with strategies to aid conversation and to adjust to life following a stroke.

We offer one to one support at our groups, so by becoming a group volunteer, you will work closely with our members, helping them practise all aspects of communication. You can do this by conversation, writing, drawing, gesturing and use visual communication aids provided. Groups have a different theme each week, and activities may include discussions, pictures, word and number worksheets, quizzes, YouTube clips, art therapy, music therapy, table-top gardening and Drama.

Our groups are term time only and run for 2 hours per week. The groups are run in Walton, Guildford, Ashford and Knaphill.

All our group Volunteers receive initial and ongoing training and are supported by the Groups Coordinator, Group Leader and Operations Manager.

Office / IT Volunteers

Aim:

To help the charity with IT and software support

If you have a background or knowledge of IT and software, you could help support our charity on an ad hoc basis.

We are looking for Volunteers to update and maintain our website, offer advice on any IT or software solutions that we perhaps aren’t aware of.

As an IT/ Software support Volunteer, you could also get involved with various projects such as supporting the charity with a smooth switchover of email hosting sites, liaise with email host and network providers and act as the IT lead when dealing with our website provider.

Local Fundraising Volunteers

Aim:

To build a team of enthusiastic Volunteers, keen to fundraise. This will also help raise our profile and help promote the service our charity offers, in helping people withaphasia following a stroke.

We are looking for friendly, approachable and enthusiastic volunteers to get involved in many activities throughout the year to raise much needed funds. This could include local village fairs, sponsored walks, golf days, selling raffle tickets, ordering and selling our TALK Christmas cards, shaking buckets outside your local supermarkets and any other fundraising ideas you may have.

There will also be the opportunity to organise a whole event, helping to run it on the day and getting the support from the team of fundraising Volunteers.

We would also like our fundraising Volunteers to put together a list of planned fundraising days/events, which can then be added to our charity events page on our website and in our newsletter. This will hopefully generate as much support as possible for our fundraising events.
